Job Description
The Fort Worth Transportation Authority has an immediate opening for a Community Outreach Manager.   This position will represent FWTA in the community and to promote the use of public transportation; to perform professional community relations work that positively influences the public’s perception and understanding of the Authority and its services.
The incumbent leads professional promotional and community relations work under the general direction of the Vice President of Governmental Relations. The incumbent represents the organization to a number of community groups to assure a responsive presence, image, and position of FWTA in the community. The incumbent plans, coordinates, and administers community outreach efforts to targeted groups and the community as a whole. Shares information about public transportation options and encourages the use of such services. The incumbent assesses the market through research and recommends the appropriate marketing/outreach mix.
Required Skills
  • Represents FWTA and makes presentations to civic groups and community organizations. Attends events in the community to make sure that FWTA is well represented. Conducts public relations events and initiates contacts in the community to promote transit service. This includes meetings with community organizations, special interest groups, colleges and universities, and businesses to provide information and to encourage use of FWTA services.
  • Leads community relations efforts for FWTA. Creates and implements strategic community relations plan and has ability to create a corresponding budget for related activities.
  • Directs community outreach efforts, working closely within the department that includes Governmental Relations, Marketing & Communications and the EasyRide commuter program to ensure the goals align with company’s overriding goals.
  • Leads outreach in important transit areas, including Alliance, North Richland Hills and Grapevine. Collaborates with Community Outreach Representative on outreach efforts with Tarrant County College and other regional schools. In conjunction with Community Outreach Representative, provides input to Distribution Coordinator on potential outlets for schedules and maps. Works on developing relationships with community partners along the TEXRail corridor. Develops relationships in new partner cities, such as River Oaks, and helps strengthen ties throughout the region.
  • Shares information gathered in the community and make suggestions to Director of Marketing on appropriate advertising methods and promotional techniques to encourage the use of FWTA services. The incumbent is likely to meet with community partners that do not overlap with current marketing outreach. Looks for partnership opportunities.
  • Leads efforts to develop materials that are needed for community outreach program activities and goals. In conjunction with Director of Marketing, works with graphic designer to create collateral that is consistent with FWTA’s brand standards.
  • Leads the planning and operation of bus services for special events (e.g., parades), working closely with Operations and other departments. Directs planning of the Authority’s participation in special events, such as Main Street, Veterans Day Parade, Parade of Lights, Open Streets and other community events.
  • Supervising the Community Outreach Representative and the Distribution Coordinator. Responsible for assigning duties, overseeing their work, conducting performance evaluations, hiring and development of supervised employees.
  • Maintains schedule of planned activities and provides weekly report reflecting community outreach efforts.
  • Participates in the FWTA's community activities to promote transit on off duty hours.
  • Coordinates volunteers for community events; recruits others within the department to assist with events as needed.
