This newly created position integrates UTA’s external-facing functions to maximize impact and efficiencies. Reporting directly to the president, the VPIA leads a development and communications team to create and execute strategies, programs and budgets that effectively communicate the president’s vision to key stakeholders and secure philanthropic resources. The VPIA is responsible for development, communications and marketing, and alumni and constituent relations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
■ Serves on the President’s leadership team to establish and execute university-wide vision, strategies, and priorities. 
■ Effectively coordinates integrated advancement efforts across all colleges, schools and units in collaboration and partnership with university leaders, deans, development and advisory board members, and alumni and constituent leaders 
■ Provides innovative leadership, and manages and inspires an effective advancement team 
■ Enables staff members to grow professionally
■ Develops effective strategies to attract major and transformative gifts and broaden the base of philanthropic support.
■ Oversees comprehensive fundraising campaigns and special initiatives 
■ Builds a program of distinction using a balanced fundraising model including planned giving, principal and major gifts, leadership and annual giving, and corporate and foundation relations
■ Operates a strong advancement service unit with exceptional programs for stewardship, donor relations, compliance, data integrity, analytics, and gift processing
■ Creates and executes annual and long-range fundraising plans within department budgets and operating guidelines to fund institutional priorities
■ Implements best practices, performance metrics and standards to maximize fundraising efforts 
■ Develops a culture of philanthropy that embraces all institutional partners, and maintains positive, strong relationships with the President’s Advisory Board and other potential donors and constituents
■ Successfully manages a portfolio of high-potential philanthropic partners and works directly with the president on securing transformative gifts
■ Provides executive leadership for the Office of Communications ensuring that university and departmental goals for areas of responsibility are met 
■ Through an innovative and integrated communications and marketing team, implements a strategic communications and marketing plan to position UTA as an institution of excellence and bring UTA stories to the world 
■ The Office of Communications and Marketing team
o Builds the UTA brand internally and externally to extend the university’s base of support 
o Executes an effective annual communication plan with performance outcomes using a multi-channel approach and expanding the use of digital and social media 
o Oversees a proactive media and public relations program
o Advises the president and develops appropriate communications strategies to manage emerging issues or potential crises
o Through a creative services team helps the Institutional Advancement Office and UTA colleagues share their stories
o Manages the university trademarks, branding, publications, and related activities
o Works closely with university legal department on all TPIA media requests
■ The Office works closely with Government Relations to further position the University and ensure timeliness of messaging for the University as related to the community, local, state and federal entities
■ The Office works closely with the Vice President for Research in ensuring that the results of the research enterprise are appropriately positioned and communicated
■ Provides executive leadership for the Office of Alumni Relations ensuring that university and departmental goals for areas of responsibility are met 
■ Encourages a robust alumni relations program that provides meaningful engagement and service opportunities increasing alumni support and participation
■ Produces an effective communication plan reaching new graduates and alumni with university news and opportunities to develop institutional pride and connections.
■ Build a university relations program with various constituencies such as parents, volunteers, development board and advisory groups, and community leaders
Required Qualifications
■ Master’s degree in an appropriate field with a doctorate preferred
■ Extensive experience as an executive in higher education fundraising at the level of Vice-President or positioned to be a Vice-President as the next career step
■ Demonstrated experience and leadership skills in a complex, demanding and fast-paced environment, preferably at a Carnegie R-1 University
■ Record of senior leadership and accomplishment as a fund raiser having played a leading role in generating six to eight figure gifts 
■ Proven record of effectively working with volunteers and high-net-worth individuals
■ Demonstrated experience and skills in employee talent development, recruitment and retention
■ Experience in planning, implementing and leading successful, large scale campaigns
■ Demonstrated experience and engagement skills to effectively collaborate with university leadership, faculty and volunteers in successfully cultivating, soliciting and stewarding key prospects and donors
■ Demonstrated success in creating alignment and integration within and among college and administrative units to create opportunities for philanthropy that support the needs and aspirations of the units while advancing the desires of prospective donors to make an impact
■ Proven ability to lead and manage a large and high-functioning advancement program, integrating development, communications, marketing, alumni and constituent relations
■ Proven ability to develop and implement plans on a unit level that complement the institution’s strategic plan with clear goals, procedures, systems and priorities across different teams
■ Demonstrated experience in developing a robust and vibrant alumni and constituent relations program that provides meaningful engagement and service opportunities increasing alumni support and participation which also leveraging synergies between philanthropy and alumni engagement in a unified advancement effort
■ Exceptional communication skills in conveying the strategic goals and objectives of programs related to philanthropy and alumni engagement and in rallying the support of key internal and external partners
■ Impeccable integrity with a thorough understanding of ethical behavior in fundraising and communications
■ Commitment to diversity and inclusion and to the principles of providing access to higher education
■ Over 15 years of progressive increased responsibility and leadership in development and advancement
■ Experience with athletic and international fundraising preferred
