OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:
The ZSUS Lean BB - Lean will be responsible for supporting the expansion of the use of Lean tools and concepts in how ZSUS performs all activities, ranging from simple daily tasks to process improvement to management practices.  This includes support of development and deployment of standard practices across ZSUS for the deployment of Lean tools and concepts into the Zodiac culture.  The Lean BB will help BU leadership teams learn how to utilize Lean tools and concepts to manage and improve the business.  The primary activities will be coaching, teaching, and project and Kaizen facilitation so team members may learn the concepts “hands-on”.  The Lean BB will report to the Director of ZSUS Lean and also work with other members of the ZSUS Lean team, Zodiac Branch and Group OpEx, and other members of the Zodiac Lean community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support deployment and use of the Lean tools across ZSUS, including 5S, Visual Management, Visual Controls, Boosters, ZAOS 49 Essentials, the Toyota Production System, Value Stream Mapping, SMED, QRQC, theory of constraints, the application of PDCA to performance metrics, and “daily Kaizen”.
  • Facilitate ZSUS-level Lean projects.
  • Facilitate and coach Lean projects and Kaizens at all ZSUS BUs.  Utilize methods that teach Lean concepts with “hands-on” activities, enabling the local team members, BBs, and Lean Leaders to quickly learn the concepts, use them, and teach them to others.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to the site leadership team on the need for and application of Lean tools.
  • Develop and document Best Practices as Standard Work.
  • Share Best Practices with Lean Leaders and other Lean BBs.
  • Along with other members of the Zodiac Lean community, develop new methods for teaching Lean concepts through hands-on use.
  • Drive the tactical action plans that are generated from all training and Lean projects.
     
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge and skills:
 
  1. Excellent knowledge of Lean management, process improvement, and problem solving methodologies
  2. Expertise within functional areas of Lean/Continuous Improvement (at least one of the following fields):
    1. Office Lean/Continuous Improvement
    2. Training of Lean/Continuous Improvement
    3. Engineering Lean/Continuous Improvement (DFLSS, DFMA, VAVE, etc.)
    4. Supply Chain/Fabrication Lean/Continuous Improvement
    5. Quality/Manufacturing Lean/Continuous Improvement
  3. Demonstrated leadership at the Manager (or similar) level.
  4. Must be an expert communicator, motivator, facilitator, trainer, and a leader.
  5. Able to organize complex thoughts and ideas into a cohesive, simple message.
  6. Ability to influence all levels of the organization without direct authority
  7. Able to build strong working relationships with all individuals (from shop floor to executive level;  all departments and educational backgrounds)
  8. Proven ability to take ownership of Continuous improvements projects and execute them in a manner that generates bottom line results.
  9. Consistent focus on safety, 5S, standard work and problem solving throughout value stream, with visible evidence of effectiveness.
  10. Must be a good time management person; understand how to hold team accountable and how to take corrective action.
  11. Must be skilled at problem resolutions. Have sense of urgency “do it now” mentality.
  12. Challenges the status quo and mobilizes self and group to adapt to changing conditions.
 
Education and/or Experience:
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business field of study
  • Minimum 7 years relevant experience and minimum of 5 years with process improvement experience.
  • Lean training and certification from the Shingo Institute, Shingijutsu, or other recognized program or company.
  • Must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be able to interface, communicate, and work with team members from multiple facilities, countries, cultures, and levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Must be able to track, support, lead, and work multiple complex tasks.
  • Must be able to drive results via influence rather than direct authority.
  • Must understand P&L and how the balance sheet affects the P&L. 
  • Proven track record of results.
  • Strong English speaking skills.
        Desired:
  • Multilingual (English plus French and/or Spanish).
  • Lean Six Sigma training from a recognized program or company.
  • ASQ Six Sigma Black Belt Certification.
