Sr. Analyst - Accounting

This position is part of the External Reporting team. Principal duties of this position include:
  • Perform quarter-end and annual close and reporting processes for BNSF and subsidiaries, including but not limited to the following:
  1. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings (e.g., Form 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, etc.)
  2. Berkshire Hathaway Quarterly Reporting
  3. Canadian Annual Reporting
  4. Government and State Agency Reports
  • Research technical accounting guidance and apply GAAP measures to accounting issues.
  • Professionally interact with Sr. Management, other departments and outside parties in response to questions and requests for information.
  • Assist in completion of special projects as needed.
Successful candidate must be a self-starter, who is detail oriented, has the ability to meet deadline-oriented tasks, and is able to facilitate and organize team efforts to accomplish common goals.
Applicant must be able to adjust readily to multiple demands and shifting priorities and work well in a team environment. This position will positively contribute to a high-morale/high-performance culture.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field is required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with BNSF’s Finance or Audit departments or the accounting / finance / audit department of another company is required
  • Working knowledge of financial statements and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently, including task coordination and decision making, as well as in a team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and solid problem solving skills
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
  • CPA
  • Prior work experience at a public accounting firm
  • Knowledge of SAP
