Executive Director, Psychiatric Nursing

Description: The Executive Director Psychiatric Nursing is responsible for the overall organization, operation and direction of the assigned nursing departments throughout the psychiatric service (inpatient, emergency, PHP, and ambulatory settings); responsible for providing quality service, positive patient satisfaction, fiscal accountability and identification of the department’s performance expectations. This position is responsible for developing programs that support excellence in nursing care for patients, improve customer satisfaction, and promote positive employee relations. Typical Duties:
  1. Directs, supervises and evaluates work activities of medical, nursing, technical, clerical, service, maintenance and other employees; prepares and administers departmental performance evaluations.
  2. Develops and implements organizational policies and procedures for the facility or department.
  3. Prepares department operating budgets on an annual basis and monitors areas of responsibility for compliance within current budget.
  4. Collaborates with physicians for integrating input into department operations and goals.
  5. Rounds on patients, staff, visitors and physicians on a random basis to assess their care and promote patient satisfaction and good public relations.
  6. Consults with medical, business and community groups to discuss service problems, respond to community needs, enhance public relations, coordinate activities and plans and promote health programs.
  7. Develops and maintains computerized record management systems to store and process data such as personal activities and information to produce reports.
  8. Develops or expands and implements medical programs or health services that promote research, rehabilitation and community health.
  9. Inspects facilities and recommends building or equipment modifications to ensure emergency readiness and compliance to access, safety and sanitation regulations.
  10. Directs and manages departmental performance improvement and meeting department goals including patient satisfaction, clinical, fiscal and strategic growth.
  11. Ensures continuous compliance with complex regulatory requirements for psychiatric care across the continuum.
  12. Participates in Leadership Development activities; implement strategies and processes to improve employee morale and performance.
  13. Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Preferred Education and Experience:
Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
  • Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing.
  • 3 plus years of inpatient psychiatric experience.
  • 3 plus years of progressive healthcare management experience.
  • Master’s Degree in a health related field.
  • 5 plus years of progressive nursing leadership responsibility.
  • 3 plus years of experience in a teaching hospital.
  • Current RN licensure from the State of Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
