The University president regularly communicates with various audiences on and off campus. These include members of the university community, civic groups, businesses, members of the legislature and others at the local, state and national levels. The Director of Presidential Communications develops a wide range of strategic communications on behalf of the President to broadly communicate his vision and initiatives to advance UTA. The successful candidate will work closely with the President, Chief of Staff and the Institutional Advancement team to craft communications, including correspondence, formal speeches, reports, presentations, and other collateral materials for the office of the President.
1. Research and draft correspondence, letters, speeches, reports, presentations and other materials to support the communication priorities of the President. Work closely with the President and other senior leaders to gather information to synthesize and finalize drafts.
2. Manage deadlines and project flow for Presidential communications in consultation with the Chief of Staff including setting internal deadlines as necessary and working with colleagues in Government Relations and Institutional Advancement to see written projects through to completion;
3. In collaboration with the social media team, contribute content for social media posts about or made on behalf of the President;
4. Maintain and oversee the Office of the President web and digital content; maintain biographies for the president and ensure that the President’s website and web assets including videos, messages and speeches are updated;
5. Ensure the accuracy of all facts and details in speeches, statements and quotes issued on behalf of the President and official statements on behalf of the President’s Office; collaborate proactively and effectively with Institutional Advancement and other parties inside and outside the University related to the President’s written or spoken words, photos and videos, social media and events;
6. Coordinate, attend and as appropriate staff social events hosted by the president and/or President’s spouse, in consultation with the Chief of Staff to help establish relationships and good communications with the university’s many diverse constituencies. This could include events off campus and outside DFW.

• Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of relevant experience or the equivalent experience
• Superb writing capabilities, including an ability to write quickly, persuasively, clearly and in the president’s style on a wide variety of subjects related to the University and higher education, at times on tight deadlines
• Demonstrated aptitude for understanding complex issues and the ability to translate and simplify them for key audiences
• Ability and willingness to meet the president’s expectations for written style and content and to accept and respond to revisions and advice rapidly and effectively
• Flexibility and adaptability, including a willingness to undertake both mundane and high-profile tasks with enthusiasm and energy
• Strong research skills and a demonstrated ability to attend carefully to both grammatical and factual details
• Demonstrated experience in story development, journalistic writing skills, as well as advanced editorial skills
• Strong experience in computer skills and ability to utilize a variety of programs, including Microsoft Office suite including PowerPoint and other presentation tools
• Ability to take initiative and work independently
• Work discreetly on sensitive or delicate assignments, exercise sound editorial judgement 
• Exceptional organizational skills and proven ability to keep track of and meet numerous deadlines; ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner and effectively re-prioritize responsibilities
• High level of discretion and excellent judgment; ability to work with and manage confidential information

• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
• Progressive experience in supporting executive level positions 
• Experience at, or extensive familiarity with, institutions of higher education strongly preferred
• Experience as a successful writer, in a journalistic, speechwriting, academic, or other related context
