The Economic Development Department is seeking a Business Development Coordinator to assist with the implementation of programs and projects focused on business retention, attraction, and expansion. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and be flexible, detail oriented person that can work effectively with members of the public. Experience in research and business development is highly desired. The incumbent is responsible for developing and administering programs to provide for effective long-range planning for the community and its neighborhoods.  This function requires in-depth technical analysis of economic patterns and trends.  This function also requires working in close cooperation with other departments, government agencies, developers, financial institutions, community policymakers, neighborhood associations, and business associations. The incumbent is also responsible for planning for and coordinating the implementation of projects to promote the physical development and economic enhancement of industrial, commercial, residential, and public sectors of the community in accordance with the comprehensive City of Fort Worth Strategic Plan. Primary duties will include and administration of specific tax increment financing districts and managing the four component units.
The incumbent will:
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of programs to encourage the attraction, expansion, and formation of new and existing employers within the community;
  • Develop and administer policies, guidelines, and criteria for the establishment of the Tax Increment Finance (TIFs) and utilization of TIF funds;
  • Manage the four component units-Fort Worth Local Development Corporation, Central City Local Government Corporation, Lone Star Local Development Corporation, and Alliance Airport Authority.
  • Negotiate terms of construction and redevelopment contracts; conducts feasibility analysis;
  • Plan, organize and conduct analyses related to the implementation of varied economic programs and projects;
  • Represent the City in meetings with representatives of business and community organizations, governmental agencies and the public;
  • Prepare a variety of periodic, progress and special reports.
In addition to the requirements stated above, the ideal candidate will possess the following additional characteristics, competencies and style:
  • Knowledge of tax increment financing policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of urban re/development best practices
  • Knowledge of economic development incentive programs
  • Experience with economic and community development agreement compliance practices and procedures
  • Possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with all levels within the organization and with customers
  • Strong project management skills managing multiple projects, on budget and within established deadline
  • Ability to make sound business decisions to meet the needs of the customers and maintain profitability goals
  • Utilize independent judgment and sound decision making
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Have excellent speaking and writing skills.
  • Principles, practices and techniques of economic development, marketing, and financing methods available for economic growth
  • Financial/statistical/comparative analysis techniques and formulae
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Planning, Urban and Regional Studies, Economic Development, or related field or comparable education/experience/training; with four years of experience in economic development or related field required; five years of experience preferred. ‚Äč
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products desired ; advanced Excel experience strongly preferred.
