The University of North Texas System invites applications for the position of Assistant Controller, UNT Dallas . The University of North Texas System (UNTS) is a dynamic, growing university system serving primarily the North Texas region. The System campuses include the University of North Texas (UNT) Denton campus, the state’s fourth largest university with more than 38,000 students; the UNT Health Science Center at Fort Worth, with 2,362 students; and the UNT at Dallas campus with 3,500 students.
This position will performs highly complex (senior-level) supervisory accounting and reporting work. This is an administrative position that will direct and manage accounting and financial reporting. The Assistant Controller will be primarily responsible for managing general accounting systems and processes to ensure accounting internal controls. This position reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance/Controller.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of all accounting transactions and accounting-related processes
  • Ensures compliance with GASB guidelines; Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards; and University policies and procedures
  • Evaluates and develops improved internal controls to ensure compliance with accounting principles and external regulations
  • Identifies, develops, modifies and maintains planning, budget, and decision support models to support strategic decision making
  • Prepare reports for the State Comptroller, the Higher Education Coordinating Board, and others, as required
  • Coordinate the annual external financial audit, which includes ensuring work papers and schedules are completed, and auditor findings are resolved
  • Coordinate the University’s interactions with internal audit and the state auditor
  • Work with the UNTD’s AVP for Finance and Administration in preparing and analyzing budget versus actual reporting
  • Build service-focused relationships with the executive team at the University
  • Recommend and implement revisions in processes procedures to meet University objectives
  • Conduct research and analysis, as required
  • Manage the University’s banking and investment relationships
  • Prepare cash flow projections
  • Assist in preparing the Legislative Appropriations Request
