Manager Budgets

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will have budgeting, forecasting, and planning responsibility for various departments and budget areas (supporting primarily Engineering operations) with a strong focus on business partnering and creating value for each area served. Responsibilities include:
  • Act as a liaison between Finance and operations
  • Monitor and manage capital budgets to ensure effective use of funds
  • Facilitate monthly budget reviews and forecasts
  • Oversee and improve forecast processes to monitor annual and monthly spend
  • Assist in preparation of strategic plans for the operations departments and provide detailed supporting financial information
  • Develop and implement control enhancements to improve the overall governance surrounding budget areas and the usefulness of information provided to stakeholders
Travel: Approximately 15% to 20%
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional work experience in accounting, budgets and/or forecasting or railroad operations
  • Capable of influencing cross-departmentally at various levels
  • Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Self-starter with ability to meet deadline-oriented tasks and remain organized
  • Able to adjust to changing demands and shifting priorities
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to quickly analyze and synthesize complex data from various sources
  • Able to understand budget systems, financial accounting, and capital planning principles
  • Able to coordinate tasks and make decisions independently
  • Personal computer skills (Office Suite) and ability to effectively use BNSF data systems
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Engineering, Operations, Accounting, Budget and/or Planning experience
