Investments and Derivatives Manager

Train and supervise assigned personnel, allocate work, and make recommendations regarding employment, performance appraisals, training and development, salary recommendation, promotion and transfer.
Responsible for reviewing the accruals and settlement of all investment securities, derivatives, collateral movements, and debt. Ensure the accounting and cash movements throughout the life of the trades are timely and accurate.
Review accounting calculations and journal entries for prepaid advance modification analyses, financing elements, OTTI securities, FIN 39, and mandatorily redeemable stock.
Review the daily swap, debt, and asset trade folders for completeness and accuracy and monitor trades for compliance with the Bank’s policies through analysis of trade tickets and broker confirmations.
Ensure compliance with ASC 320 and ASC 815 on all new and existing transactions. 
Evaluate daily and monthly balance sheet account reconciliations to ensure proper accounting and timely resolution of reconciling items.
Oversee the month-end close process including the upload and verification of market values and estimated maturity dates and review of the month-end checklist and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Monitor and review the accounting for the Bank’s mortgage loan portfolio and assist with the maintenance of various internal mortgage loan operational support activities among the Accounting, Treasury, and Lending/Marketing departments of the Bank, and as required with FHLB Chicago.
Conduct research on FASB, SEC, and regulatory (e.g., FHFA, CFTC, etc.) pronouncements related to financial instruments and document impact assessments and implementation plans.
Work with Treasury, Accounting and Information Technology personnel to develop, implement and maintain processes, policies and procedures to support and account for new and existing loan, investment, debt, and derivative instruments.
Supervise the requirements gathering, development and testing of systems used by the Investments and Derivatives Accounting team.
Perform additional duties as assigned.


 Bachelors degree with a major in accounting or finance.  CPA required.
5-10 years of progressive experience in accounting for investments, mortgage loans and derivative instruments with a major financial institution, a broker/dealer and/or a public accounting firm.
3-5 years supervisory experience.
Detailed knowledge of relevant accounting pronouncements related to investment and derivative instruments and mortgage loans. Extensive knowledge of ASC 310, ASC 320, ASC 815 and ASC 860.
Excellent organization skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong skills in MS Excel required.
Experience working with an investment accounting system and a relational database preferred.
