The Audit Director manages and directs audit strategies and activities for multiple business functions to appraise the adequacy, efficiency and effectiveness of financial, operational, managerial and systems controls.  Reporting to the VP of Audit, the Audit Director will be Responsible for evaluations of business functions and assists in improving the company's risk management and corporate governance. 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Directs audit activities for multiple functional areas of the company.  Sets strategic direction for the assigned area, including audit methodology, audit plans and continuous monitoring initiatives and monitors performance against KPIs.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with Executive and Senior Management.  Participates in or leads the presentation of audit findings to senior management in order to obtain appropriate corrective action.
  • Assists in the development of audit strategies, best practices and utilization of technology.
  • Consults with Executive and Senior Management to ensure Auditing is aligned with company priorities and objectives and to encourage Internal Audit participation on company task forces, process focused reviews, and other advisory activities where Auditing’s perspective will be beneficial.
Core Competencies & Accomplishments:
  • Education:  Bachelor or Masters Degree with emphasis in accounting, information systems, business or finance; CIA or CPA is expected;  MBA is desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum 12-15 years of progressively diversified experience, including management responsibilities in an auditing function within JCPenney or a similarly large complex organization.
  • Core Competencies: Company core competencies (ROI) including strong communication, decision making, business knowledge, relationship building.
