Sr. Real Estate Development Accountant

·         Accounting and reporting for Development projects
·         Monthly general ledger close for specific assigned projects in accordance with GAAP, including preparation of all necessary JE’s.
·         Research, reconcile and resolve issues for all balance sheet accounts on assigned projects.
·         Ensure all recorded transactions are in accordance with GAAP or other required accounting standards.
·         Review income statements and balance sheets at month-end for specific transactions on assigned projects.
·         Preparation of monthly Draw package for Equity and/or Loan funding purposes.
·         Work with Development Director and team to ensure all documentation required for the monthly draw submission is received timely.
·         Record monthly draw fundings.
·         Monthly calculation of applicable development fees.
·         Monthly preparation of Project Cost Summaries showing status of construction and development properties.
·         Monthly explanation of variances to budget within predefined thresholds for properties that have become operational.
·         Preparation of monthly/quarterly reporting package for joint venture partners.
·         Preparation of annual development and operating budgets as well as updated forecasts.
·         Preparation of annual CAM reconciliations for operating projects.
·         Accounting for property acquisitions and dispositions, including review and summarization of related documents and preparation of journal entries, in accordance with GAAP. 
·         Communicate and provide information to development directors, capital partner, auditors, corporate accounting, tax department, lenders, and others
·         Cash Management and Payables
·         Weekly accounts payable invoice processing, including verifying coding and approvals.
·         Work with Assistant Controller to determine adequate cash availability for weekly check runs.
·         For projects under construction, set up initial contract and input change orders into job cost system, including recording and tracking retainage.
·         Prepare monthly capital calls to each of the joint venture partners, as required.
·         Compliance with lender reporting requirements.
·         Preparation of monthly draw package for submission to lenders and recording funding.
·         Ad hoc requests and special projects
Minimum Requirements/Key Competencies:
·         Degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
·         Real estate accounting experience (2+ years)
·         Proficiency in Word, Excel, JD Edwards and MRI accounting packages
·         Strong organization and analytical skills with proven ability to meet deadlines and reporting requirements
·         Ability to complete and accept ownership of all projects and tasks.  Ability to work independently
·         Ability to comprehend, analyze and interpret documents
·         Ability to solve routine problems in a timely manner
·         Knowledge of financial terms and principles
