DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Always make safety the highest priority in every work practice and every behavior.
  • Provide customers, contractors, and employees with technical training and guidance for safe loading and securement principles of various commodity types in carload and intermodal equipment.
  • Manage all automotive cargo-related mishaps across the rail system. Develop training programs and other special projects regarding the transportation environment to minimize cargo-related service interruptions, improving network fluidity with an emphasis on automotive shipments.
  • Able to analyze data with regard to damage and incident trends.
  • Establish safe, reliable, and economical loading methods for shippers.
  • Create computer generated isometric loading diagrams for customers that illustrate safe loading methods.
  • Manage all cargo related mishaps in assigned rail territory, to include: derailments, displaced loads, accidents involving lading recovery/disposal, distressed load shipments, hazardous/environmentally harmful releases, etc.
  • Provide technical expertise to help identify root causes of load shifts, displaced loads, derailments, lading/equipment damage and take appropriate corrective action in order to work toward resolution of those issues.
  • Assist Mechanical employees and contractors with suggestions to expedite repairs to a load which has been setout for load adjustment.
  • Keep stakeholders informed of potential commodity/shipper problems and yard handling performance.
  • Develop training programs and/or special projects that help educate customers and contractors on the rail environment in order to minimize cargo-related service interruptions to our rail network.
  • Support Marketing and Sales with new business opportunities, meeting with customers to establish equipment and load plans.
  • Provide on-site support and guidance for customers as needed when loading rail cars and containers.
  • Keep Marketing and Sales advised of continuing customer problems and costs associated with that customer or business segment. If applicable, suggest possible solutions.
  • Assist with developing Marketing Bulletins and Safety Advisories.
  • Participate in periodic intermodal safety audits to verify customer compliance with safe loading methods.
  • Test and analyze system loading, blocking and bracing procedures for customers from a safety and damage prevention standpoint.
  • Interface with internal personnel to foster improved rail operations and ride quality.
  • Provide support to RP Claims Department related to investigation and follow-up on cargo claims.
  • Provide hazardous materials training to BNSF and contract employees regarding transportation regulations, materials identification and response to materials release incidents.
  • Hire, direct and supervise contract personnel to ensure safe work practices and value-added service.
  • Work with vendors on developing new and improved products/technologies for use in loading/securing lading on rail cars.
  • Provide proper documentation and reporting of all work-related activities.
  • This positions requires 24/7 on-call duty for emergency response situations.
 
 
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • The applicant must have demonstrated integrity, proven leadership experience in a team environment, strong work ethic and a high level of motivation.
  • The individual must possess a combination of strong interpersonal and communication skills consistent with the BNSF Leadership Model and a working knowledge of rail operations.
  • The applicant must also possess high aptitude for problem analysis and resolution.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications including the skills necessary to create computer generated loading diagrams in the Microsoft Power Point format.
  • The applicant also must become OSHA certified Level A hazardous materials responder rated at "Advisor Level."
  • Available to work in the geographic area indicated and be willing to travel within and outside that area on an unscheduled, irregular basis with little or no advance notice.
  • Work in excess of 40 hours per week assuming 24 hours per day / 7 day per week on-call responsibility including weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
  • Work with minimal supervision in compressed timelines and ambiguous situations.
     
    Must be able to work:
  • On uneven surfaces and climb on/off equipment
  • In conditions that include loud noise and fumes, work on and around heavy and moving machinery, bend, walk, stand and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Outdoors in all weather conditions; hot, cold, rain, snow and sleet.
 
Possess a valid-state-issued driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of 3 years railroad experience and a working knowledge of rail operations.
  • Minimum 1 year railroad experience proposing and evaluating loading and securement methods; applying BNSF, AAR and DOT rules and regulations concerning cargo securement; conduct ride quality tests and responding to cargo-related mishaps.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Microsoft Office, including Excel pivot tables, formula functions and formatting as well as PowerPoint isometric diagramming. 
  • Experience in data analysis, especially familiarity with SQL, WebFOCUS and Tableau.
  • Develop analytics to support planning and investigation through data mining and manipulation.
