BNSF Railway, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced telecommunications networking professional.  This position is part of tiered support function responsible for monitoring and managing the communications network in a 24x7 Network Operation Center (NOC) environment.
This position will maintain and provide systems support for the network operations platforms, including but not limited to:
  • IP Microwave backhaul, Cisco routers/switches (Edge and Core Data Center), VoIP, QOS, wireless LANS, monitoring software, scripts and network fault and performance output.
  • Providing tier II support on escalated issues within the NOC, and contributing to processes and procedures for best networking practices for BNSF. 
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers to assist with development of troubleshooting techniques and cause determination.
  • Ensure system availability, drive recovery efforts during outages to restore service, and ensure problem management follow up for root cause analysis.  
The successful candidate will be able to: 
  • Effectively use tools and resources to monitor the network so that the team can proactively respond to problems before they impact the customer. 
  • Coordinate resources to troubleshoot incidents, restore service, assess impact and effectively communicate with field personnel across the BNSF system. 
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of management, with service providers, and customers to ensure incidents are escalated and resolved in a timely manner.  
  • Successfully execute Incident, Problem, and Change Management Processes
  • Bachelor’s degree with preferred emphasis in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field OR 7+ years of experience in Network Operations
  • Cisco routing and switching experience, including BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VoIP, QOS, load balancing, packet shaping and all wireless LAN technologies.
  • Candidates must have strong communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.
  • Candidate must be willing to work in a 7x24 hour 365 day a year operation control center. 
  • Candidate must be willing to provide rotating 24 x 7 on-call support
  • Candidate must be an effective verbal communicator and possess the ability to work within a team. 
  • Candidate should be detail oriented, well organized, assertive, and be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. 
  • Railroad or Transportation Industry Knowledge
  • RF Knowledge and P2P Microwave System Experience
  • Signaling Systems/Train Control
  • Capacity Bandwidth Management for Enterprise Networks
  • VoIP Support
  • Firewall/Network Security
