The Economic Development Department is seeking an Economic Development Specialist to assist with the implementation of research programs and projects focused on serving the needs of the department and City of Fort Worth. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and be flexible, detail oriented person that can work effectively with customers. Experience in research and geographic information systems (GIS) is highly desired. The incumbent is responsible for developing and administering a research program to provide for effective implementation of the Economic Development Strategic Plan. This requires in-depth technical analysis of economic patterns and trends.  This function also requires working in close cooperation with other departments, government agencies, and partner organizations.  
The incumbent will:
  • Develop and maintain knowledge/data on Fort Worth’s economy through primary and secondary research, including knowledge of Fort Worth-based companies’ products, markets, and supply chains;
  • Manage research program to provide colleagues with information to target attraction clients and supporting those efforts with customized reports supporting growth opportunities in Fort Worth. Such information may include market research, competitive intelligence, workforce information, business costs, and other customized research;
  • Conduct database research to supply colleagues and leadership with timely, relevant, and actionable information for client and projects;
  • Establish procedures for consistent responses to Requests For Information and other inquiries from site selectors and consultants;
  • Support foreign direct investment efforts with pertinent research materials;
  • Support small business and entrepreneurship initiatives with pertinent research materials;
  • Assist with the implementation of EMSI, Impact DataSource, and other data-driven information to support Fort Worth’s investment decisions and strategies;
  • Utilize GIS to support the department’s development and revitalization efforts;
  • Represent the City in meetings with representatives of business and community organizations, governmental agencies and the public;
  • Prepare a variety of periodic, progress and special reports.
In addition to the requirements stated above, the ideal candidate will possess the following additional characteristics, competencies and style:
  • Knowledge of research methods
  • Knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS)
  • Financial/statistical/comparative analysis techniques and formulae
  • Possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with all levels within the organization and with customers
  • Utilize independent judgment and sound decision making
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Have excellent speaking and writing skills.
Education and/or Experience:
  • Experience with Microsoft software programs is required.
  • 2 years of research experience required.
  • Experience with GIS is preferred.
  • Knowledge of economic development and revitalization is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, Planning, Urban and Regional Studies, Economic Development, or related field or comparable education/experience/training.
