Job Summary: The Executive Vice President and Dean of Brite Divinity School is a Board-elected Operating Office who reports to the President. The EVP/Dean oversees the six degree programs, administrators and faculty who are related to those programs of instruction as well as the office of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs. The EVP/Dean has responsibility for accreditation of the programs of instruction; overseeing the directors of lay and continuing education programs, and supporting diversity efforts. This position provides creative leadership in the areas of long-range planning, budgetary decisions, personnel selection and evaluation, programmatic development, and represents the Divinity School within the University and the larger community.
Duties and Essential Job Functions:
Guides planning for the Divinity School by setting long-range and operational goals and objectives in consultation with relevant constituencies.
Represents the Divinity School to internal and external constituencies by maintaining active involvement in professional organizations, agencies and appropriate community groups.
Collaborates with other academic administrators in the formulation, interpretation and execution of academic policy and procedures for the Divinity School.
Supports and is involved with the goals and activities for Brite Advancement; meets and interacts with potential donors.
Provides leadership in the development and evaluation of all academic programs and outreach programs in the Divinity School by assessing effectiveness of current programs and analyzing the needs of students and overall enrollment pressures.
Maintains effective budget management controls by monitoring expenditures and implementing Divinity School fiscal policy.
Manages personnel in the Divinity School by determining the Human Resource needs of the Divinity School; directing faculty/staff recruitment, selection, development and evaluation.
Addresses students' needs/concerns pertaining to academic matters by participating in the recruitment and retention of students and certifying students' academic progress for graduation.
Teaches classes and pursues scholarly endeavors as appropriate.
Supports the development of members of the Permanent Faculty across all ranks and oversees faculty searches that deepen the distinction of the faculty as teachers and scholars who are able to equip people for ministry and whose scholarship serves the church and the academy.
Oversees administrative functions intended to support and enhance excellence in the academic programs and student services at Brite.
Serves as a liaison to Texas Christian University to strengthen a positive reciprocity between the two institutions.
Serves the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees as staff liaison, attends Board meetings, and responds to opportunities to support the work of the Board.
Leads required accreditation reviews with the appropriate organizations.
Works cooperatively with the Vice President of Business and Finance to build and supervise the budget related to Academic Programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.  
 
Position Requirements:
Required Education and Experience:
  • PhD or equivalent in an appropriate academic discipline.
  • A distinguished record of teaching and scholarly achievement sufficient to merit a tenured appointment in a theological discipline.
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of current issues in higher education and academic disciplines relevant to the Divinity School.
  • Skill in oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to respond imaginatively and creatively to problems and opportunities.
Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.
