The Engineer Associate thru Senior, provides project management and technical support to the Distributed Generation (DG) Resource Integration Dept. ("DG Group") within the Oncor Asset Planning organization. The DG Group serves as the main point of contact for customers, installers, and DG developers submitting new DG Projects; solar, wind, energy storage, other and emerging technologies seeking interconnection and parallel operation with the Oncor distribution system. The position provides project management for DG Projects throughout the full project life-cycle; initial application, prescreening and system impact studies, preparing the interconnection agreement, overseeing scheduled construction, relay testing and commissioning, and final approval for commercial operation. The Engineer Associate thru Staff roles generally provides project management oversight of large-scale commercial DG Projects using eTRACK automated software. The Senior Engineer role supports additional objectives of the organization generally through development and implementation of technical DG interconnection and operating standards, and supporting business processes and documentation.
 
Key Roles & Responsibilities Directly or through others, the incumbent will:
 
  • Manage information and data for DG Projects requesting interconnection with the Oncor distribution system using eTRACK for all phases of the project life-cycle, from initial application, through prescreening and system impact studies, preparing the interconnection agreement, overseeing scheduled construction, relay testing and commissioning, and final approval for commercial operation.
  • Ensure system impact study cost estimates, working schedules and target service dates, have been established and communicated with all key stakeholders, and any changes, impacts and new expectations are communicated with all key stakeholders and updated in eTRACK.
  • Provide active management of the eTRACK system for DG Project tracking, generator model data, update and maintenance; maintaining the expertise necessary to draw on the eTRACK database for various planning and operations reporting needs; support the environment for users with needs to access the records of the DG Group and eTRACK database.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of DG interconnection requirements, equipment and operating standards, and NERC, Texas RE, ERCOT, PUCT, IEEE, or other authorities.
  • Serve as the project manager and primary point of contact representing DG Projects from customers, installers, and DG developers across internal departments supporting the planning, system protection, construction, and ongoing operation.

Job Attributes
Education and Experience
 
Engineer Associate:
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
 
Engineer:
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years of engineering experience preferred.
 
Staff Engineer:
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum four (4) years of engineering experience preferred.
 
Senior Engineer:
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum six (6) years of engineering experience preferred.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
 
Skills for Engineer Associate - Senior Engineer are:
 
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with ability to express ideas and concepts in individual or group situations.
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, especially with regard to multiple assigned projects, information, and generator data.
  • Ability to establish trust and commitment in building inter-organizational relationships and communications to achieve goals, includes leading or contributor roles on project teams that proactively collaborate with key stakeholders.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet established deadlines for assigned projects.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, other technical or project management expertise a plus.
