The Asset Protection Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Financial Control Director to join our team. The Financial Control Director is responsible for assisting management and departments in developing and monitoring automated controls helping ensure financial transactions are properly authorized and executed. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing and maintaining role-based access controls. This position will also implement an automated continuous review process to monitor the role-based access and other financial controls. The incumbent will continually evaluate processes to identify opportunities to increase reliance on automated controls. This position reports to the executive director of asset protection in the Division of Finance and Administration and works in conjunction with departments in all university divisions. 

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: 

* Advise and assist financial managers developing and maintaining a role-based access control structure to restrict access to only authorized users. 
* Maintain a high level of knowledge of state laws and generally accepted accounting principles and procedures to develop efficient and effective financial controls. 
* Develop a continuous monitoring system to: 
--Ensure conflicting role permissions are not assigned to the same user. 
--Identify unusual transactions, activities or relationships between financial data elements. 
* Develop and enhance use of automated financial controls. 
* Evaluate current policies and procedures to enhance control awareness and compliance. 
* Develop procedures communicating how new user roles and user permissions are established and monitored. 
* Develop and present control training for department managers to heighten control awareness and help managers communicate the purpose of controls to all staff. 

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in accounting and minimum 10 years of experience in accounting, compliance, audit, finance or other related field; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. 

The following knowledge, skills and abilities are required: 

* Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems. 
* Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory; to work accurately with numerical detail; to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data; and to communicate effectively. 
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
* Ability to effectively and respectfully interact with all management levels. 
* Ability to be persuasive and avoid or diffuse tense situations. 
* Experience working in one or more functional areas of accounting. 
* Strong working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, and accounting practices. 
* Strong problem solving and analytical skills. 
* Ability to analyze, consolidate, and present accounting data in clear concise form.
