The American Red Cross has a temporary opening for an Assistant Director of Planning working out of our Red Cross facility located in Houston, TX. This temporary position is expected to last 3 months but could end early or be extended based on business need.
The Assistant Director (AD) of Planning is responsible for overseeing data analytics and reporting functions for the Assistance & Support Center (ASC) to support the provision of recovery assistance to those affected by Hurricane Florence, Hurricane Michael, and the 2018 California Wildfires. The AD of Planning is responsible for overseeing the collection, analysis, dissemination, evaluation and use of information to appropriately provide situational awareness to inform decisions. The position will lead a team that collects information from a multitude of internal and external sources, synthesizes salient data points in accordance with the Director’s priority information requirements and provides products that support timely and efficient decision making.
Job Summary: Responsible for overseeing Data Analytics and Reporting functions for Assistance & Support Center. 
Key Responsibilities and Tasks: 
  • Provide data analysis and decision support to the service center in any of the following areas: finance, operations, planning, project, risk or other business analysis.
  • Oversee the collection, analysis, dissemination, evaluation, and use of information to provide situational awareness and decision support analytics
  • Proactively assess, plan, and organize multiple areas of the recovery operation
  • Support data sharing, data integrity, data security, and data clean-up.
  • Review and approve excel spreadsheets to go to Shared Services Center.
  • Oversee the development of modeling and reporting tools or other systems for monitoring and analyzing performance or data.
  • May coordinate regularly with Situational Awareness and Decision Support (SADS) and Red Cross Damage Assessment teams
  • Hold regular meetings with team to discuss plans and issues and resolve problems.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: Minimum 5 years of project or program management experience. Minimum 3 years staff management experience. DRO Information and Planning experience a plus.  Ability to initiate and maintain an ongoing assessment of the relief operation in consultation with appropriate Red Cross leadership, taking immediate action to strengthen and improve the operation.  Ability to build effective relationships with units and individuals who can help with work related goals. Intermediate level proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required. Intermediate level proficiency using Customer Relationship Management (CRM), such as Salesforce, strongly desired. Demonstrates adaptability to constantly changing situations with flexible and creative approaches. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to work independently, handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
