Business Development Coordinator - Revitalization

The Economic Development Department is seeking a Business Development Coordinator to assist with the implementation of programs and projects focused on strategic development and revitalization. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and be a flexible, detail oriented person that can work effectively with members of the public. This function requires working in close cooperation with other departments, government agencies, developers, financial institutions, community policymakers, neighborhood associations, and business associations. Experience in urban re/development and placemaking is highly desired. This function requires working in close cooperation with other departments, government agencies, higher education partners, community policymakers, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders. The incumbent is responsible for implementing those strategies specific to revitalization, as identified in the Economic Development Strategic Plan.  Primary duties will include implementation of strategies within Goal 3: Ensure Community Vitality, such as working with transportation and housing partners, as well as public land owners, to target specific geographies for economic development.
The incumbent will:
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of programs to encourage the re/development of targeted areas within the City;
  • Facilitate implementation of placemaking activities within the community;
  • Negotiate terms and manage contracts associated with re/development and placemaking initiatives;
  • Plan, organize and conduct analyses related to the implementation of varied economic programs and projects;
  • Support TIF Administrative needs;
  • Represent the City in meetings with representatives of business and community organizations, governmental agencies and the public;
  • Prepare a variety of periodic, progress and special reports.
In addition to the requirements stated above, the ideal candidate will possess the following additional characteristics, competencies and style:
  • Experience with urban re/development best practices
  • Experience with placemaking initiatives and partnerships
  • Experience utilizing economic development incentive programs
  • Experience with economic and community development best practices
  • Possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with all levels within the organization and with customers
  • Strong project management skills managing multiple projects, on budget and within established deadline
  • Ability to make sound business decisions to meet the needs of the customers and maintain profitability goals
  • Utilize independent judgment and sound decision making
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Have excellent speaking and writing skills.
  • Understanding of principles, practices and techniques of economic development, marketing, and financing methods available for economic growth
  • Understanding of financial/statistical/comparative analysis techniques and formula
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Planning, Urban and Regional Studies, Economic Development, or related field or comparable education/experience/training; with four years of experience in economic development or related field required ‚Äč
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products required.
  • Experience with Salesforce preferred.
