The Director, Global Trade Compliance provides management expertise and leadership in the key areas of trade compliance for the Company. He/she will oversee a team who is responsible for determining the classification of products for import and export into the USA. Strict compliance with all US export regulations is critically important for the team.  As well as the requirement for importing products into destination countries.
This key management individual serves as a risk leader for the entire organization and, as such, is required to have extensive experience in trade compliance, training and regulatory arenas (EAR, ITAR, OFAC, etc.) This position represents a unique opportunity to operate at the forefront of trade compliance, facing complex issues confronting a multi-faceted, global organization. The position calls for a broad profile, including strong technical expertise across multiple international, federal and state laws and regulations.
This position also interfaces and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to assure optimization of global trade compliance activities, assuring utmost process discipline and quality of output. The Director will support senior management in championing a compliance-focused culture whereby compliance is inherent in everyone’s job.
Key characteristics required of the position include global awareness of import/export trade requirements in the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific regions, being well connected with transportation and logistics providers, resourcefulness, creativity, and a commitment to providing excellent customer support.  Approximate 20% travel is required.
  • Develop robust, integrated global trade compliance programs across the organization, with a focus on trade control issues and building on the Company’s existing standalone programs and processes. Provide leadership to the teams that manage day-to-day operation of the corporate compliance programs.
  • Develop a sustainable model for the organization with emphasis on the trade compliance function, and provide management support for a team of trade compliance personnel. Participate in team development and development of trade compliance policies and procedures.
  • Benchmark Company’s compliance program against programs of other respected organizations; work with key thought leaders in the area of compliance to ensure best practices. Provide logical business solutions to trade compliance challenges.
  • Assess risks and identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability; develop/implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provide guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future. Serve as corporate subject matter expert on all areas of import and export compliance.
  • Monitor the performance of the Company’s compliance program and related activities on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve their effectiveness.
  • Institute and maintain an effective compliance communication program for the organization, including heightening awareness among employees of compliance risks and policies and aligning and educating the Company regarding current and emerging risks and trends.
  • Develop and ensure delivery of effective compliance training programs, including appropriate on-boarding and ongoing training for employees.
  • Provide reports on a regular basis to senior management to keep them informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts. Advise impact of trade compliance regulations and changes worldwide.
  • Support strategic development and tactical execution of all Foreign Trade Zone activities within the existing subzone, assuring overall compliance with all applicable requirements from US Customs and Border Protection.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, International Business, or Business Administration is required (advanced specialty degree or Juris Doctor preferred).
  • 10 years related experience (high-tech industry preferred).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of domestic and international law, customs regulations, import and export procedures and Incoterms.
  • Capable of interpreting laws and translating them into business practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively throughout the organization.
  • Familiarity with operational, financial, quality assurance and human resource procedures. Significant project management experience within a compliance environment is required.
  • Experience working with senior government and regulatory agency officials.
  • Customs broker license is required.
  • Working knowledge of domestic and international transportation, logistics and physical distribution.
  • In-depth knowledge of international trade and transactional requirements relative to applicable government regulations including; licensing, permits, documentation, customs compliance, and use of foreign trade zones.
This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).  To perform the position, you must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR.  ITAR defines a U.S. Person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
